Meet Colin (aka ‘The Fallible Man’)

All the way back to his teenage years this ‘ordinary’ guy, now in his mid 40’s, has encountered numerous episodes of anxiety, depression, and periods of self-inflicting sabotage. Just like the vast majority of men, afraid of the stigma and career limiting consequences attached to male vulnerability, he’d always muddled through, keeping a second life firmly locked away from the outside world. That was until a family bereavement back in 2014 smashed both lock and door open to a whole new level of personal crisis that both he and his family would ultimately endure for 9 very long years.

In many respects, the ‘Fallible Man’ has achieved a lot in life… happily married to a loving wife, father of two, and in a good space professionally having worked his way up from his solid working-class London roots to the heady heights of ‘Chief Financial Officer’ working in the financial services sector. But he’s carried a dark secret for nearly a decade now… a crippling second marriage…. to Anorexia Nervosa!

Man Vs Food is a personal account of an ‘everyday’ guy’s battle with himself and a deep-rooted addiction to an eating disorder that would come very close to destroying him and those closest to him. But it goes beyond what society would still view as a rare account of a male experience with anorexia… afterall, it’s a condition we only see in teenage girls, isn’t it? It also aims to bring to life the daily psychological warfare that hides away in the mind of everyone suffering at the hands of an addiction led illness and provides a brutally honest assessment of the relationship between aspects of modern day living and the growing mental health epidemic we’re witnessing… through the eyes of one of its victims! Most importantly this book documents a personal account of Colin’s attempt to free himself and his family from the tight ‘anorectic’ chains bound to every aspect of life when he started his first journey into writing.
