The mushroom Chaga has many different names: this mushroom is also called Tschaga and has the botanical name Inonotus obliquus (also Schiefer Schillerporling). It grows as a parasitic fungus on white birch trees in cold climates. For centuries, Chaga has been used as tea and tincture for many different applications in areas of the northern hemisphere.

How can I use Chaga at home?

You can make a delicious latte from the mushroom. The powder also looks good in porridge. Instructions for our favourite Chaga recipes can be found below.

What does Chaga taste like?

The higher the antioxidant content of the food, the more bitter it tastes. You can expect a bitter and earthy taste. If the taste is too bitter for you, you can mix cocoa and lucuma with the chaga powder to make it a little sweeter.

Power- Porridge

Ingredients:

60g tender oat flakes300ml oat milk1 tsp Chaga powder1 tsp cinnamon1 tsp coconut blossom sugarFruit to taste as a topping

Preparation:

Bring the oat flakes and oat milk to the boil in a saucepan and simmer on a low heat until the desired consistency. Turn off the heat, stir in the Chaga powder and the coconut blossom sugar and leave the porridge to stand for 5 minutes. You can top your porridge with fruit if you like. We used frozen berries. Be creative and enjoy it!

Chaga Latte

Ingredients for 2 Latte:

2 teaspoons chaga powder3 pitted datesMark of a vanilla pod200ml Barista almond milk (oats also taste great)

Preparation:

Puree dates with vanilla pulp and Chaga powder in a stand mixer with 300ml hot water (please be careful)! Divide the Chaga mixture into 2 containers. Foam the almond milk and pour it over the two lattes. You can add a little cacao powder if you like.

Golden Chaga Milk

Ingredients for 2 portions:

400 ml oat, soy or rice drink2 tbsp Chaga powder2 tsp turmeric3 cm ginger1 tbsp honey1 pinch black pepper

Preparation:

Peel the ginger and grate it finely. Put it in a pot with half of the vegan drink and the rest of the ingredients and bring to the boil. Add the remaining 200 ml of liquid and leave to cool. Whip your turmeric latte with a milk frother until frothy. If you like it refreshingly cold, add some ice cubes.
